Why your main photo only lets you Adjust and remove the Background

Your main eBay photo only offers Adjust and Background tools. Here is why, and where to add text, graphics or a watermark instead.

If you open the image editor on your first (main) photo and notice that only Adjust and Background are available, that is not a fault. This article explains why the main photo is restricted, and where to go if you want to add text, graphics, frames, or a watermark to your listing photos.

What you will see on the main photo

In the image editor, photo position one, the one eBay uses as your listing’s main image, only shows two tools: Adjust (brightness, contrast, crop and similar corrections) and Background (remove or replace the background). Tools for adding text, graphics, frames, or a watermark are not shown for this photo. You will usually see a warning banner on the main photo confirming this restriction.

Why the main photo is locked to these two tools

This is a deliberate rule, not a bug. eBay’s policies restrict what can appear on a listing’s main image, and text, logos, borders, and watermarks on the primary photo are the kind of thing that can put a listing at risk. DashVue enforces this at the editor level so you cannot accidentally publish a non-compliant main photo. There is no setting or override to unlock the extra tools on photo position one.

No override for the main photo

Adjust and Background are the only tools available on your first photo, on purpose, to keep your listing eBay-compliant. There is no way to enable text, graphics, frames, or watermarks on the main image itself.

Where to add text, graphics, frames, or a watermark

Switch to any secondary photo, position two or later, and the full set of editing tools becomes available, including text, graphics, frames, and watermarking. Use your main photo for a clean, compliant product shot, and use your secondary photos for anything you want to brand, annotate, or dress up.

A simple way to think about it

Treat photo one as your “clean” listing shot and treat photos two onwards as your “branded” shots, where you can safely add your logo, size charts, feature callouts, or a watermark.

Publishing reminder

Editing photos in DashVue is available whether your eBay connection is read-only or Full Access, but pushing an edited photo back to a live eBay listing needs a Full Access connection. If your connection is read-only, you can still adjust and preview your photos and save them to a draft or template, you just will not be able to publish the change to eBay until you upgrade the connection.
