Set up Auto-Print for eBay orders

5-minute setup guide for DashVue Auto-Print: find your printer's email address (Epson Connect, HP ePrint, Canon Cloud Print, Brother Cloud), configure DashVue, send a test print.

DashVue Auto-Print sends a branded invoice to your printer the moment a buyer pays on eBay — no PC running, no browser tab to keep open. This guide takes about 5 minutes. You’ll need a cloud-print printer (Epson Connect, HP ePrint, Canon Cloud Print or Brother Cloud).

Before you start

Check you’ve got these four things ready:

  • A DashVue account on a paid plan
  • Your eBay account already connected to DashVue (see Connect your eBay account if not)
  • A printer that supports one of: Epson Connect, HP ePrint, Canon Cloud Print, or Brother Cloud
  • Your printer signed in to its cloud service and online

Step 1 — Find your printer’s email address

Every cloud-print service gives each printer its own email address. Anything you send to that address gets printed. Find yours below, copy it, and keep it handy for Step 2.

Epson Connect

  1. Sign in at epsonconnect.com
  2. Open your printer’s page from the dashboard
  3. Copy the “Email Print Address” — it’ll look like yourname-1234@print.epsonconnect.com

HP ePrint

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your phone or visit hpsmart.com
  2. Select your printer
  3. Look under Printer settings or Web Services for your printer’s email — format is usually somename@hpeprint.com

Canon Cloud Print

  1. Open the Canon PRINT or PIXMA Cloud Link app and sign in with your Canon ID
  2. Select your printer
  3. Find “Email Print” or “Print from email” in the settings menu and copy the assigned address

Brother Cloud

  1. Sign in to the Brother Online portal
  2. Select your printer
  3. Enable “Print from anywhere” (or similar) and copy the email address it gives you

Step 2 — Configure DashVue’s printing settings

In DashVue, head to Settings → Printing. Set the controls in the order they appear on the page:

  1. Toggle Auto-print invoices when orders come in to ON
  2. Under Print method, select Email-to-print
  3. Paste your printer’s email address (from Step 1) into the Printer email address field
  4. Recommended: toggle Print in black & white only on. Saves colour ink and works perfectly for picklists and dispatch notes.

Your changes save automatically — no Save button to click. A green tick next to the email field means DashVue has verified the address format.

Step 3 — Send a test print

At the bottom of the printing settings page, click Send test print. A sample invoice should arrive at your printer within 2 minutes — usually much faster.

Why test prints can take a few minutes

eBay’s webhook and DashVue’s PDF generation are nearly instant. The bulk of the delay is your printer’s cloud-print queue, which can take up to 5 minutes during peak hours. Real orders go through the same queue.

Step 4 — Epson only: disable cover sheets

Skip this step if you’re not on Epson Connect.

By default, Epson Connect prints a sender-info cover page and the email body before the actual attachment — so you’d get three sheets per invoice instead of one. Disable both:

  1. Sign in to epsonconnect.com and open your printer
  2. Go to Print Settings (sometimes under Email Print Settings)
  3. Uncheck “Print Sender’s Information”
  4. Uncheck “Print Email Body”
  5. Save

Don't skip this on Epson

We learned this one the hard way. Without unchecking these two boxes, every printed invoice is preceded by a blank cover page and a copy of the email body — a lot of wasted paper across a day of orders.

You’re done — what happens now

Every paid eBay order will now generate a branded invoice on DashVue’s servers and email it straight to your printer. Typically prints within 2 minutes of payment.

Every print job — tests, real orders, failures — is logged in Settings → Printing → Print Historywith timestamp, order ID and status.

Rate limits

Test prints are capped at 3 per hour per account to prevent accidental loops. Real-order prints aren’t rate-limited.

Troubleshooting

The test print didn’t arrive

  • Double-check the printer email address for typos (it’s the most common cause)
  • Check your printer’s cloud service for a queued job — Epson Connect has a Print History page, HP Smart shows recent jobs, and so on
  • Wait 5 minutes — cloud-print queues sometimes back up at peak times
  • Check DashVue’s Print History (Settings → Printing) for a failed job

The printer prints a blank cover sheet before the invoice (Epson)

Epson Connect ships with cover sheets enabled by default. Follow Step 4 above to disable “Print Sender’s Information” and “Print Email Body”.

It’s printing in colour even with black-and-white turned on

Nine times out of ten this means you’re out of black ink — most printers automatically fall back to composite colour (mixing CMY) when the black cartridge is empty. Replace the black cartridge and try again.

Auto-print stopped working overnight

Your eBay connection token may have expired (eBay tokens last around 18 months). Head to Settings → eBay connection and reconnect.

I’ve hit the 3 test prints per hour limit

Wait 60 minutes for the limit to reset. The limit only applies to manual test prints — real orders coming through the eBay webhook aren’t rate-limited.

Frequently asked questions

Does auto-print work without a computer running?

Yes, if you use the email-to-print method with a cloud-print printer (Epson Connect, HP ePrint, Canon, Brother). DashVue’s servers email the invoice directly to your printer — no PC at your end is involved.

What printers are compatible?

Any printer with one of these cloud services: Epson Connect, HP ePrint, Canon Cloud Print, Brother Cloud. Older printers without these services can still use the browser-tab method (guide coming shortly).

How long from order to printed invoice?

Typically under 2 minutes from when the buyer pays. eBay’s webhook and DashVue’s PDF render are sub-second; most of the delay is your printer service’s email queue.

What gets printed — picklist, invoice, or both?

A single branded invoice / dispatch note per order, containing buyer name, address, line items, prices, and your business details. Designed to go in the parcel.

Can I print in black-and-white only to save colour ink?

Yes — toggle Print in black & white only in Settings → Printing. The invoice renderer outputs a monochrome version with no coloured accents.

What if my printer is offline when an order comes in?

The email sits in your printer’s cloud queue and prints as soon as the printer is back online. No orders are missed.

Why do I get a blank cover sheet before every invoice (Epson)?

Epson Connect prints a sender-info cover page and the email body by default. Disable both in Epson Connect → Print Settings (Step 4 of this guide).

Can I see which orders have printed?

Yes — every print job is logged in Settings → Printing → Print History with timestamp, order ID, and status (done / queued / failed).
